Growing Tulip Flowers

Tulips are one of the most attractive flowers and also one of the easiest to grow, making them a very popular flower for home growers. Tulips grow from bulbs, and the best time for them to bloom is of course in the spring. This means they must be planted in the autumn time.

When selecting your tulip bulbs, be sure to find out whether they are early or late bloomers, because it means that they must be planted at different times. If you choose carefully and to plant your tulips, you should be able to maintain a constant flow of blooming flowers in the spring to reach.
Also when choosing your lights, take a careful look at the colors of the flowers. There are many different colors to choose from, including mixed colors. Try the ultimate result of all these flowers and how they will look in your flowerbed visibility. Take time at the moment because it's a huge impact on how your garden will look when spring comes around and this is the only part of the growing that you really have full control over it - the rest is up to the tulips!
And one last tip on selecting bulbs: Take a look at the size of the bulbs. The larger the bulb, the more food it is stored and therefore more fuel to grow in the spring bloom. Very simple: the bigger the bulb, the bigger the bloom! So shop around and be prepared to pay more for larger bulbs if you really buy bigger and better flowers.

As already mentioned, once you've chosen for the bulb, the rest is up to the tulips themselves so choose carefully and make sure you plant at the right time and in the right place.

If you want tulips artificial breeding, ie not in spring-time, you can "force" to grow by planting them indoors. This is very fun and it's worth buying a few extra bulbs in the fall to work on this. You need the plants into thinking winter has come and gone so you need to plant them in a pot, put the pot outside (or in a refrigerator if it's not cold outside) for 3-4 weeks to make them think that they are in the winter. You can then bring the pot inside to a warmer temperature and the tulip bulb will think it is spring and begins to grow and flourish, whatever time of year it is.

If you want bulbs to store for later use, then be very careful where you are! They should be placed in a cool, dry, well ventilated area. Inside the house (such as a basement or pantry) is best as an external garage tends to get too hot in summer and the bulbs will not survive.

Once you have a successful bloom, let the plant continue to grow until it dies of its own accord. After the flower has bloomed and died, the plant itself is still sending food and nutrients to the bulb to store for next season.
